I think I first started blogging in college when I got drunk and started a blog. Not surprisingly, it didn’t last (and I actually couldn’t post for a long time because I did not remember the blog address or the password). That blog is lost to the internet now, but the name is still with us: Beer Pancakes.
I’ve continued using BeerPancakes as a tag for my twitter and instagram because beer pancakes are a wonderful excuse to open a beer in the morning. They were a Slope Day tradition at Haus.
Here’s how you do it: buy box of pizza mix, instead of adding milk or water…add beer. Best part? You only need a cup of beer, so you still have 4 ounces left to drink!
It’s not sophisticated, but in college it felt genius. And it didn’t taste too bad. Now, most of my pancakes use Henry discard (post coming soon), but I still think about my original pancake experiments.
Other random things I’ve added beer to:
- Eggs Benedict (“beernaise” sauce!)
- Soup (smoked beer is great for this)
- Brine for pork chops
- Waffles
- Mac and cheese
- Mashed potatoes (Homebrew Chef has a great recipe)
There are a lot of recipes for adding beer to food, but the most important thing is that if they call for 12 ounces of beer, you should probably just add 12.5 or 13 ounces…yes, you will have to open another beer, and no, most of that second beer does not go into the food…
